Restoration and extension project by architects Elie-Pierre Sabbag and Naji Assi.
The main objectives on that restoration and extension project were to establish and enhance the relation between the cathedral and its surroundings and to create a pedestrian path linking it to the future archeological park "the garden of forgiveness".
In parallel, the project provides a generous ceremonial space while working extensively on both underground and cathedral levels combining both internal and external spaces, porticos and courtyards. These spatial elements redefine the cathedral's ritual within a series of private, semi public and public spaces.

Office building designed by architects Elie-Pierre Sabbag and Naji Assi.
A program of retail shops and offices was set for this narrow lot facing the new souks of Beirut. The proposal adopts a framing concrete structure opened to the north to maximize the relation with this prime location of downtown Beirut.
While the ground level is totally transparent, the office floors are treated with translucent marble and glass composite panels to filtrate light and provide controlled views.

I was there from 1972 to 1974 due to the war and returned to the US. I have very fond memories of my stay there and I wish there was a register of my colleagues so that I could look up their names. I also wish someday to return to Beirut and catch up with some of my classmates.
